When should children's ears be pierced?

Although culture and family traditions often dictate when to pierce a child's ears, we recommend waiting until the child is able to help with caring for their pierced ears themselves 🙋 In infants, infections can cause serious complications and even hospitalization, so doctors often recommend waiting at least a couple of months.

🗣 We understand that many families pierce their ears early for cultural reasons - in such cases, it is recommended to wait at least until the child is 2 months old and has received their first vaccines to reduce the risk of infections.

The best age to get earrings is when your child asks for them. Piercing is often a birthday gift or a step before starting school.

Hygiene after ear piercing is everything! 🧼🧤

We recommend using a system rather than a gun , as it reduces the risk of infection and scarring 🪡 If you choose a tattoo parlor or other place – make sure it is sterility ! The specialist should use new disposable gloves, sterile equipment, and have appropriate training.

Choose the right earrings 💎

Choose hypoallergenic materials , such as:

  • medical steel
  • 925 sterling silver
  • 14k, 18k or 24k gold

⚠️ Avoid nickel , as it often causes allergies.
👶 For younger children, earrings with screw-on closures are recommended - this will make them less likely to be pulled out and choke.

How to avoid infections when getting your ears pierced? 🦠🚫

🔹 Do not touch your pierced ears unless necessary
🔹 Always wash your hands before cleaning
🔹 Clean your ears daily with saline solution , front and back
🔹 Do not use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide
🔹 Don't take your earrings out
🔹 Do not change earrings
🔹 Avoid swimming in the pool, sea or bathtub during healing 🏊♀️❌

How long should you wear earrings? 🕒

Do not remove your earrings for at least 4-6 weeks . Continue to clean them regularly during this time.
🧒 For older children, this is a good time to teach responsibility - but still check to see if everything is working as it should.
Healing can take several months . Once your ears have healed, wear the earrings daily for another 6 months to prevent the holes from growing back.

Beware of ear piercing complications! 🚨

🧷 Children can pull out earrings or damage the labret, which may require medical attention. About 35% of piercings in infancy result in some kind of problem!
If you see redness, pain, swelling, pus, or an ingrown earring behind your ear for more than 24 hours, contact your doctor immediately .

Ear piercing for children

🔸 Don't plan to pierce your child's ears too early
🔸 Choose sterile conditions and professional specialists
🔸 Use high-quality, hypoallergenic earrings
🔸 Take good care of your ears while they are healing
🔸 Keep track of possible complications

🎀 With care and responsibility - ear piercing can be a beautiful and positive experience for both the child and the parents!
