Piercing Care and Healing Process – The Complete Guide

Pīrsinga kopšana un dzīšanas process – pilnais ceļvedis

You did it – you have a new piercing! 🎉

What happens next?

Proper care is essential for your piercing to heal healthy and beautiful. This guide will help you understand how to care for your new piercing. Your body is complex, and our job is to help you through the process safely and comfortably.

What to expect from an ear piercing? 🤔

To dispel myths, most people experience the following symptoms during healing:

  • light bleeding 🩸
  • swelling
  • sensitivity
  • itching
  • bruises
  • pain or discomfort
  • scab formation

During the first few days, you may experience a white-yellowish discharge that forms a crust on the jewelry, as well as redness and dryness of the skin around the piercing. This is normal and does not always mean infection. If you have any doubts, contact a professional piercer.

How long does a piercing last?

  • Earlobe: about 8 weeks
  • Other ear piercings: 3 to 12 months
  • Body piercings: highly dependent on location and body characteristics

Healing is usually complete when swelling, discharge, redness, and pain have subsided. It is best to visit your piercer for a professional evaluation.

Piercing healing process and daily routine 🧘

Your lifestyle affects healing:

  • Helmets and headphones can interfere with ear piercings 🪖
  • Regular abdominal exercises or swimming can delay the healing of belly button piercings 🏊♀️
  • Dusty work (e.g. construction) makes it difficult to care for nose/ear piercings 👷
  • Tight clothing (e.g. belts, high-waisted pants, or hats) can interfere with healing 👖

Smart tip: Consider the best time to get your piercing. If you've been involved in sports or have an intense summer with lots of swimming planned, it may be better to postpone the procedure.

How to care for a fresh piercing? 🧴

  • Always wash your hands before touching your piercing 🙌
  • Clean your piercing morning and evening for the first month.
  • Use saline solution Never make your own solution with salt, and never use products containing alcohol - too high a concentration is harmful to the skin.
  • Apply the product to both sides of the piercing, gently moving the piercing back and forth.

When to reduce the piercing bar? 🔄

Initially, the master uses a longer rod to allow room for swelling and air circulation. Once the swelling has subsided, a long rod can be a hindrance, so it is recommended to come to the studio to have it reduced.

WHAT NOT TO DO WITH A PIERCING

  • Do not self-diagnose – many symptoms are normal stages of healing.
  • Do not move, touch, or rotate the jewelry.
  • Do not sleep on the piercing and do not wear headphones or clothing that puts pressure on it.
  • Don't over-clean or scrub too often – twice a day is enough.
  • Don't go swimming in pools, lakes, or the sea until it's healed. 🌊
  • Do not use aggressive agents (e.g. alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, home remedies).
  • Do not use cosmetics or lotions in the piercing area 💄 .
  • Avoid contact with saliva until completely healed.
  • Don't change your jewelry too quickly – wait for the craftsman's permission.

Now you know how to properly care for your piercing! If you have any questions or concerns, always consult your piercer. He or she will help you not only during the procedure, but also throughout the healing process.

💎 The main thing – patience, hygiene and professional supervision = a beautiful and healthy piercing!
